Hi James and Ellen,
Song of Songs is an ode about a guy and a gal who are madly in love with each other. Solomon is who scribed the Song of Songs sonnet. Song of Songs is sometimes called Song of Solomon. The Song of Songs prose is unique among all the Bible’s canonized books. Solomon’s Song of Songs love saga was first circulated among the Israelite people groups guys and gals – which was Solomon’s people group, sometime in the tenth century B.C. – probably sometime during Solomon’s forty year reign as the third positioned king over the Israelite people groups guys and gals. Your grandpaa tends to believe that Solomon may be referring to himself in Song of Songs as the love struck dude. The Songs of Songs narrative’s primary focus is on the joys but also on the distresses of a guy and of a gal who became husband and wife. The Song of Songs storyline begins with the guy and the gal meeting and mutually admiring each other’s physicality. Friends of the guy – who is called the lover, and of the gal – who is called the beloved, at times encourage the lover and the beloved in their relationship with each other. The more that the guy and the gal are with each other, the more they become infatuated with each other – which leads them to get married. Distress shows up for the gal when her husband leaves her for some alone time. Solomon’s Song of Songs elegy has his wife really missing her absent husband. The guy in turn finds himself reflecting on his Shulammite’s bride’s unrivaled beauty. Song of Songs ends with the friends, the gal and the guy dialoguing about the wonders of love.
Even though the candidness in Song of Songs 8 chapters does not make this poetry literature family reading, Solomon’s frank recounting of possibly the very first time that he fell in love with a gal – who had fallen in love with him, and why they got married resonates today. Love is a very special gift that God has given to every guy and every gal to drive a courtship relationship – that a guy initiates with a gal, that ultimately leads to marriage. The love gift that God has hardwired in a gal – to have a guy pursue her, uses the gal’s physical attractiveness to get the guy’s attention so that in the end the guy and the gal can do – once they are married, what God – in His divine, ordered way, has brought the guy and the gal together to do – which is to be always unabashedly intimate with each other. The physical love gift that is portrayed over and over again in the Song of Songs lyrics is to be accepted as being invaluably precious, unashamedly spontaneous and enjoyably powerful. The love gift – per Song of Songs upfront, descriptive visuals, which a gal has for her husband because of his palpable, obvious desire for wanting her to be his exclusive, lifelong companion is the driver for marital contentment and fulfillment. Solomon in his Song of Songs love story storyline has the love gift bringing tenderness, delightfulness and naturalness to a marriage in which the husband and the wife unconditionally accept each other as being equal sharing partners in their bonded relationship. A Song of Songs marriage between a guy and a gal will lead to the guy and the gal affirming and encouraging each other at every opportunity. Even though the theme that courses throughout Song of Songs is a joy brought about by love, the gal wants it to be seen clearly by her gal friends that when her husband leaves her to do something that the feeling of missing him is painfully gut wrenching. The gal counsels her friends that they are not to let love rush into their lives but that they are to move ahead cautiously in a relationship with a guy – letting love happen as a natural outcome to where a guy and a gal will reciprocally appreciate each other’s bodily appeal, deferentially respect each other’s moral values and happily acquiesce to each other’s spiritual walk with his and her Lord and Savior.
Your grandpaa is scheduled to fly in two days to Ecuador where he will co-lead a Salvation Army adult short term ministry team. Your grandpaa will be away from home for thirteen days. Even though your grandpaa is looking forward to being in Ecuador – a South American country that he has never been to, your grandpaa’s emotions are mixed as he will once again be leaving the gal who he knows without a doubt loves and respects him. Because your grandmaa and grandpaa have been married for forty-nine years, (for sixty-two years as of the editing of this missive) your grandpaa knows that each day now that your grandpaa has with your grandmaa is a gift from God. The stylish beauty of your grandmaa is what initially captured your grandpaa’s attention to want to get to know her and to be with her. It did not take long before your grandmaa’s playful teasing, quick wit and magnetic charisma – along with your grandmaa’s exquisite beauty, had your grandpaa dreaming about your grandmaa becoming his wife. It was not until several years after your grandmaa married your grandpaa that your grandpaa realized that he had married a gal who has even more inner beauty than she does outer beauty – which is to really say a lot in your grandpaa’s eyes regarding your grandmaa. Your grandpaa is not the only guy who has seen the depth of person who your grandmaa really is; your dad’s Uncle Joey told your grandpaa one day – in front of some of your grandpaa’s family, that your grandmaa choosing to marry your grandpaa was the best thing that has happened to your grandpaa. Your grandmaa has been a wonderful helpmate and companion to your grandpaa for the past forty-nine years (now sixty-two years) in being there for your grandpaa through her enduring love for him which has your grandpaa loving her even more.
