“As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,”” says the LORD, ““So no one will live there: no man will dwell in it.”
– Jeremiah 49:18
Hi James and Ellen,
Have there been times when you knew that you were experiencing God’s anger? Have there been times when you knew that you deserved God’s wrath? Have there been times when you knew that God had every reason to pour out His indignation on a guy or gal? Ammonite people group guys and gals found out what it is like pushing God’s hot button. Jeremiah details in Jeremiah 49 the events that led to why God sent a king and his army to do a number on the Ammonite people group guys and gals. Nebuchadnezzar was the king who God sent with his army to do a number on the Ammonite people group guys and gals. Nebuchadnezzar reigned as king over the guys and gals who lived in the country of Babylonia. Esau was the patriarch of the Edomite people group guys and gals. Esau was Jacob’s twin bro. Jacob became the patriarch of the Israelite people group guys and gals. Esau was born seconds before his fraternal twin which meant that Esau had the right to his family’s birthright. Jacob first got Esau to sell his birthright rights to him for a bowl of hot porridge and then Jacob – with his ma’s help, tricked his dad – Isaac, into blessing him with the firstborn rights. Jacob – fearing that his bro would . . ., headed north to where his Uncle Laban lived – which is now the country of Syria, where he spent the next 14 years. Esau in the meantime headed in the opposite direction to live his life in nearly inaccessible caves and clefts that are in Edom’s mountainous territory. About 750 years before God – as God the Spirit, divinely breathed the words on Jeremiah that overtly focuses on the Ammonite people group guys and gals and which he recorded in his Jeremiah Book, God’s specially chosen guys and gals – who are the Israelite people group guys and gals, were skirting around Edom’s territory because they had been explicitly told by God to not to fight the Edomite people group guys as they were distant cousins through Esau, and then through the territory of Moab into the territory of Ammon. Ammon’s territory was located on the east side of the Jordon River or on the opposite side of a land area that was called Canaan that God was about to give to His specially chosen guys and gals to always to have to live in as their very own land. Before they crossed over a dry Jordon River riverbed, the Israelite people group guys conquered the Ammonite people group’s guys and gals. The Ammonite people group’s territory was allotted to three Israelite people group tribal clans. Gad tribal clan was one of the three clans who settled on what was once Ammonite people group territory. Between the 750 years or so from when the Ammonite people group guys and gals first came under the dominance of Israelite people group guys and when Jeremiah recorded for posterity what God – as God the Spirit, had him scribe, Ammonite people group guys and gals had reclaimed their former land area and had extended their land area to where Esau carved out his life to live with eagles to north of the city of Damascus. God had Jeremiah be His messenger to tell the Ammonite people group guys and gals what He planned to do to them to avenge their total disregard and complete disrespect of Him.
Jeremiah scribed in verse 18 what God – as God the Spirit, instructed him to scribe “As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,”” says the LORD, ““So no one will live there: no man will dwell in it.” about God’s fury against the Ammonite people group guys and gals. What God – as God the Spirit, had Jeremiah convey to the Ammonite people group guys and gals resonated with them as they knew exactly what God did to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Ammonite people group’s patriarch was Ben-Ammi. Ben-Ammi was one of Lot’s sons. Ben-Ammi’s ma was Lot’s youngest gal. Even though Lot was given the opportunity to escape God’s total eradication of two wholly immoral, degenerate cities, the handing down through generations forefather sins seem to have continued among the Ammonite people group guys and gals
God forewarned the Ammonite people group guys and gals that Molech – their pet god, would be seen as to what it really is – an inanimate nothing, that the city of Rabbah – their capital, would become a mound of ruins and that their surrounding villages would be set on fire. When God ended His heated diatribe against the Ammonite people group guys and gals, He focused on the land area that had once been Esau’s stomping grounds. God warns the guys and gals who are living in the town of Teman that they would not be able to hide even in Edom’s territory’s deepest caves from His built up rage. Teman was an important town that was located south of the Dead Sea. God then turns His warnings to the city of Damascus on which He promises to unleash panic, anguish and pain causing the city of Damascus to be abandoned, young guys to fall on the streets and the city’s walls set on fire. Jeremiah continued scribing the warnings that God – as God the Spirit, passed on to him to . . . warnings that promised dread, destruction and death. You probably are getting it that your grandpaa is very concerned about recent decisions made by the United States Supreme Court that allows for the killing of fetuses and disallows the reading of the Bible in public schools, about a growing consensus to no longer defend the country of Israel and about Christ-follower guys and gals becoming convinced that guys, gals and kids who have assumed another faith paradigm will ultimately experience a similar nirvana as they will when they pass through death’s gate – which they think will be into heaven.
